Safe Travels

Just returned from a trip to Salt lake; bad weather conditions both coming and going.

So, I'm very grateful we returned home safely.

Thank you, Heavenly Father.

Health

We hear on a daily basis about health struggles for our friends and family.

We have some MINOR complaints, but, in general, we are doing well.

And, I am VERY VERY grateful.

Wonderful, Generous Children

I cannot even believe what they did for us for Christmas...

It cost them a BUNDLE.

I'm not sure we deserve it.

But, they did it.

And, I am beyond grateful.

Allen

74 years ago on this very day,

Robert Allen Hackworth was born.

And, I am thankful.

Allen on Christmas Day 2014 with ONE of his new down riggers; he thinks this is the best present ever!  Ha Ha.

The neighbors have been showering us with delectable treats...

Not so good for the weight/diet,

I've got a very bad kink in my neck, down my left shoulder blade...

i can't turn my neck very well.

It's even extending down my arm.

It's painful.

And, it reminds me how grateful I am to have good health.

I say this quite frequently.

Because I realize over and over again what a great blessing it is to have a

steady stream of money.  It's not a lot, but it's ENOUGH!

"Wow, there's a rock in my pizza," I told Allen while we ate in a little restaurant in Gila Bend AZ.  "How did that get there?"

"It's probably a tooth," he said.

Well, it turns out, he was right.

It was a tooth alright.  And, it needed fixing.

So, I made an appointment and went to the dentist to get it fixed.

And, I am grateful.

It's a great blessing to have sons.

To see them grown, being productive, good fathers, good men.

And, I don't take that lightly.

Rain in Southern California

It's raining here in San Diego;

It is desperately needed.

Last week when we went to get something to eat at a fast food chain, there was a sign saying because of the drought in California, they were no longer adding tomatoes to every order.

Now, I'm okay with not having a tomato on a taco, but I am concerned with the farmers/ranchers who are all trying to make a living in a terrible drought.

So, rain is a very good thing here where we are visiting.

And, I am grateful!

Being Humbled

Yesterday I was feeling so very grateful...which I am.

But, we got humbled last night over a family situation.

It reminds me how badly I need the help of the Lord,

In every aspect of my life.

I need to rely heavily on him.

And, I'm grateful I realize and know that.

I'm grateful I can turn to him in Prayer and Pleading.

And, knowing that HE will send His peace and comfort.

I am grateful.

An Abundance of Blessings

I'm feeling very grateful today for many blessings.

I'm not sure why I have so many blessings, while others are suffering.

People Who Serve

Yesterday I rang the bell for the Salvation Army.

For only two hours.

But, it reminded me of all the good people who serve day in and day out to help make a community stronger.

And, I am grateful.

Our Home

It looks all festive in the great room;

there are a few modest decorations outside.

And, I love the cozy feel.

I'm very grateful.

Food and the Ease With Which We Get It

Food is not an issue for us.

We have plenty and to spare.

We go to the grocer's and buy it pre-cooked, pre-packaged, pre- everything.

Or I can cook from scratch, but I still have spices at my disposal and haven't had to make those on my own.

I'm spoiled.

And beyond that, I am grateful.

RAH's Help in the Kitchen

He didn't always help,

but he does 95% of the dishes now.

And, I am grateful.

Thankful People

Some people are just thankful people.

So, when they acknowledge something we have done or given, I appreciate it.

And, that makes me grateful.

Good Talks in Church

Truly, they are quite rare.

So, when I hear one, I want to shout out.

Hearing a really good inspiring talk in church makes me grateful!

That doesn't sound very good, I know,

but it's true.

I like to just go and relax and just go to the meetings.

And, I'm grateful I can do that today.

Bill and Barbara and Kathy had us over for Thanksgiving Dinner;

I am so glad that I can see.

Legs That Work

Yesterday in a store, the clerk had a hard time getting up from showing us something on a bottom shelf;

 "My knee," he said.  "I just had knee surgery.  It's the 4th one."

I just can't imagine having to have surgery 4 times on the same knee.

Man, I am so thankful that I have the sue of my legs so far.

Oh, I am grateful.

Repentance

Over the years, I have needed this so much.

I'm 70 now, and still need it.

So, of course, I'm grateful.

Having Janessa live with us

It's a great blessing to have her around.

I'm sure it's very hard for her...

But, it's fun for us.

Heat and Warmth

I'm so grateful for a heater.

I do not like being cold.

So, when it is warm, I like that.

I get headaches sometimes.

And when I do, I often just take an aspirin.

It makes me wonder about the pioneers as they struggled across the plains....

What did they do for a toothache, stomach, heartache?

Well, okay pain killers don't do much for heartaches,

when I need one, I'm very grateful!

Living in SG

Living in SG, I only have to contend with one of those, and even that is not as bad as in other areas of this great frozen country.

I first heard about a car having heated seats when I was just out of high school.

It seemed like an impossible luxury to me.

My parents never had heated seats.

I wish they had been able to have them.

Heated seats are the BEST in cold weather.

Oh, yes, they get dirty so fast...

But, when they are clean,

Having Janessa Live With Us...

It's a great blessing for us to have her here...

She scared some little kids last night; one little kid turned and ran away when she answered the door. It was fun!  Hey, even like this, she looks beautiful!

Allen HATES getting hair cuts (time and money).  I HATE giving him haircuts (I'm bad at it.)

I just read about an entire family that died; apparently the parents poisoned each child and then drank poison themselves.

They were plagued by continuing financial problems.

We are not rich...sometimes I'd like more.

But, we have what we need.

And, I am grateful....

The Sunshine

It happens almost EVERY day.

And, I LOVE it.

I'm so very grateful for the sunshine....bring it on.

But, today as I walked by the pills aisle in the grocery store, I was reminded of what a break blessing health is.

Yesterday during the Sacrament portion of church, I really pondered and reflected and repented.

I can't imagine cooking everything from scratch.

When I'm in town, I try to do it every other week.

Usually I do initiatory, but this time I did a session with Vonnie Andrews.

It was good to hear the covenants we make.

I am so grateful that we have water in this desert.

Yesterday we went on a hike;

it was

HOT, HOT, HOT.

When we arrived at the car, I was so very thankful for AIR CONDITIONING.

Then we came home to an air conditioned home.

My Bread Mixer and Wheat Grinder

I have had it for 12 years.

I bought one after Linda Ricks gave me a loaf of her bread....

I had to be able to make bread like that!

It was light, airy, delicious, healthy,

and ever so tasty.

So, since that day 12 years ago,

I've been baking bread.

And, I'm so grateful for the tools to make it so tasty.

So, catching a whiff of it today as I walked across a parking lot as I looked around and up into the clear blue sky, I realized I had never given thanks for:

Today, we went to the temple in Vernal, Utah.

But, we have been spending money lately;

On summer trips, fishing trips, gas, major purchases, etc.

And, I'm just grateful that are not in debt and that we have some money....

Quiet, Peaceful, Relaxing Mornings

Normally, I would be at church.

But, for a variety of reasons, we didn't go.

So, it's a slow, peaceful Sabbath morning.

And, I'm grateful for this time.

Pink Fingernails

Ha ha!  I don't often get my fingernails painted.

But, a couple of days ago, Janessa painted them hot pink.

And, I LOVE them!

I'm grateful for nails and the fancy pink color.

Janessa - The Good Sport

Here we are in the midst of smalltown, USA.

Just a few miles from Flaming Gorge, Utah/Wyoming.

Not much to do; fish, eat, and play Yahtzee.

But, Janessa is game for it all; no complaints; just willing to go along with whatever.

Okay, she's wonderful.

And, both Allen and I are grateful.

Home!

Soon we will leave for three weeks.

I will miss our lovely home and its comfortable surroundings.

I love being home...it is always comforting to me.

Healthy Food

So many people do not have access to food that is good for a person.

But, while we didn't grow a garden this year, so we don't have food from a garden,

we do have plenty of good food that is available year round.

Family

Donna called today; it was so fun to talk with her....

She and Bill are on a mission in Virginia.

So, we don't get to talk very often.

I love Allen's family.

And, I love mine.

Mornings

Sometimes I get bad news at night;

it overpowers me and puts me in a funk.

I mope and grope for reasons, answers, etc.

But, then Morning comes

And, MOST of the time...

I can see more clearly...

I have a fresher perspective.

I don't really like to exercise,

Living in St George

I love St George....

Sure, it's VERY HOT in the summers.  I do not like that.

But, I can stay inside; turn up the AC, and be fine.

It's small enough, big enough, LDS enough,

In fact, it's just perfect for me!

I just learned of the death of a dear colleague of mine; Bonnie Thomasen.

She was a remarkable and marvelous person.

And, she was only 67.

She will be missed.

Crazy, Lazy Days

I have been totally unproductive today...

I don't like days like this; I feel very very guilty.

But, I am thankful for days like this especially with a resolve to do better tomorrow!

It has been a most pleasant stay.

...which I don't have here.  It is beyond frustrating at this home....the owner and wife obviously do not use the internet much; they would never put up with this snail's pace.....

So, it makes me appreciate what we have at home in St George.

Ability to Travel

We are enjoying our stay in the Rogue River Valley of Oregon; it's lush, green, peaceful, lovely.

But, this morning at 2:30, as I was awakened by that strong pull of the bladder wanting to be emptied, I thought about what if I had had an outhouse.  Terrible!  I would have hated that!

And, it made me so appreciative of that little room right next door to the bedroom.

My office is such a pleasant place;

HA...everything may not be in its place, but there's IS plenty of space for:

Oh, yes, I do like this office.  Sometimes I think about my mother paying the bills, writing letters; she really didn't have a place to do it very well...makes me feel sad for her.

Because a handy office is such a great blessing.

Recurring theme....

Allen just learned about his first girlfriend; she is recovering from a wretched, wretched ailment.

While reading about it and her, I was so overcome with gratitude for good health; vision, mobility, hearing, ability to serve, get around, drive, and everything that goes with being healthy.

And, I am beyond grateful.

Janessa

When Jenni and Brent moved, it just tore me up; still does.

Oh, how I miss them.

But, at least Janessa and Jared are here.

And, I am grateful.

Every six months, it's time to get my toenails painted red.  Thanks, Janessa.

Extended Family

My brother's family came for a short while; it went too quickly, but for a brief moment, here's what it looked like; (except that we didn't get a picture of Becca and Christopher who are likely going to get married in the summer...)

These are Gardner's three kids; Nathaniel's four children, plus an exchange student from the Ukraine, and Natasha's 3 boys.  All so gentle and good and fun.  Look at those cousins in their twin jammies; now that is just CUTE!

Five of the seven Gee siblings were at our home this morning.  I wish Becca and her boyfriend could have gotten in the picture.  They came over later, so by then the cameras were put away, conference had started and the party was over.

I have such marvelous nieces and nephews;

And, I am grateful.

Internet

Ha!  It was down this morning.

And, that was distressing.

I really use the internet A LOT.

And, I am grateful.

Music!

It's an oft-recurring theme in my head.

But, I am so grateful for MUSIC.

And, that I can HEAR it.

I don't like it when Allen is gone, nights are long and scary.

I love going to the nursery;

It's such a happy place to be.

I love to read.

I love having some time to work on projects, church stuff, family stuff, etc.

Learning New Things

Every Wednesday, I listen and watch Marie; she's interesting and unique.

She's never married, was a school librarian, and she knows her stuff.

Her stuff is WORD.

And, she imparts it to us.

I'm trying to learn, but oh, remembering is the challenge.

It's fun to learn the program.

I'm grateful.

My MacIntosh Computer

Every day that I use it, I'm so thankful I have it.

At first, I was hesitant to get it; it was sooooo much $$$$$$.

But, I enjoy it very much.

I probably shouldn't be so thrilled over a worldly thing,  (I do use for it for doing family history), but I do like me some fancy MacIntosh computer!

Oh, yes, I'm grateful.

Freedom!

I'm listening to a book right now about an even in Iran in 1979.

What happened is quite unbelievable, actually.

But, it reminds me of how very precious freedom is.

And, I am so very grateful.

Church Calling

I love serving in the nursery.

It's such a great place to serve.

Email/Internet Communication

When I work on family history, I occasionally find correspondence written by her to relatives.

That process was long and tedious.

Now, we communicate by email which is fast and efficient.

Additionally, we have Google/Facebook to help us locate people

And, I am grateful for these modern methods of communication.

Moments of Happiness

I went to visit the neighbors to see Bethany's science project a couple of days ago.

There are four children (one is a young baby) in the family.  When I asked them to show me the project, the three children eagerly ran outside to demonstrate how it works.

It was just such a happy moment to share in their enthusiasm and glee.

Little children are so spontaneous and delightful.

Then Bethany and her mother sang for me from Frozen.  It was just fun.

I am grateful for moments like that.

Our Home

I love our home..

A Car

I recently heard of a woman who had her driver's license taken away because of her age....

My heart aches for her because she lives alone and it's how she got around to do things.

I realize that I am thankful to have a car and still be able to drive at this point in my life.
